Hi my name is John Morrisey and I am the founder and the man behind the curtain here at Defy the Power.
I am a father, grandfather, uncle and mentor. My goal is to make a better United States for the upcoming generations doing what I love which is simplifying Liberty, Freedom, Libertarianism and ending the Duopoly.
My entire life I told my kids and any young person who actually listened to me you have one life, chase that dream and don't regret not chasing that dream. In the early 90's I worked in radio. I was just starting out didn't get too far in the field when the birth of my 2nd and 3rd daughters (twins) came into the world. Actually prior to their birth I began working in business and cut radio to a part time gig so I could support my current eldest daughter and the 2 on the way. I would add a 4th daughter later on. I would eventually move to Florida and essentially retire or leave radio.
So many decades later I had an idea and a dream. Talk about the most interesting subject I know, Liberty, Fredom, Libertarianism and Politics. I decided to go the podcast and blogger route so I could run this the way I want too and eventually support myself doing this. I wanted to control the content and not have a boss impacting the way I am doing things.
My road to being a Libertarian is a lifetime of learning. I grew up in a Union Blue Collar town south of Buffalo, NY. I saw the firsthand the failure of the Utopian Democrat state and the Welfare system. This environment at an early age motivated me to become a Republican. As a Republican I never felt comfortable in some of the religious and moral standards of the party. Most of the politicians I admired cheated on their wives and didn't live the life they preached. I am a Christian and Catholic but I didn't like the intermingling of politics and religion. I also didn't see much difference in what got done with government whether the Democrats or Republicans were in charge. The rhetoric was always different but if you looked at the finished product there wasn't much difference between the two. Very disturbing was the continued growing of deficits and debts under Republican leadership. Some of this was inspired by the 3rd Party run of Reform Party Candidate Ross Perot. In the 90's I began to listen to Neal Boortz and Neal made a lot more sense than Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. Neal Boortz got me interested in Ron Paul and suddenly Libertarianism was making sense. I just had one more hurdle. The fear that the other evil would win.
As a Libertarian I found happiness. I felt I was being me for the first time. I wasn't having to find ways to excuse what Republican leadership was doing and I really knew the Democrat system didn't work. Mario Cuomo was one of my biggest inspirations in moving from Buffalo, NY to Orlando, FL. Had I stayed I would have been pulling out my hair in the monarchy where the son Andrew Cuomo then gets elected. I thought we defeated the monarchy in the Revolution.
So please give the Defy the Power (still can't believe that URL was available and cheap) a read and a listen. Drop us some advice. Tell us what you like and don't like.
Although I am a Libertarian. Defy the Power is a safe zone for all 3rd parties. Our country is much better place without the Duopoly. Change is tough and if I can help with a word or two that leads you to see the light of why 2 political parties spend 100's of billions of dollars for political seats that pay 5 & 6 figures you will see the corruption that is not good for our children and grandchildren.
So join us at Defy the Power.
